my favorite teacher. He made high school fun.
Educated many of the Fitzgerald, Gepson and Townley family members over the years. Definitely a fixture of the Fort Calhoun School. Godspeed Mr. Herman! You were more than an educator, you were a mentor and an example of what we should all strive to be.
Joe was one of my very favorite teachers in High School! As an adult, I was able to visit with him again many times when he was driving my kiddos buses on their field trips. He was such a nice person!
I’m so very sorry to read of Joe’s passing. I worked with him at Penneys. He was very nice and had a great work ethic by willing to take on any job he was given. I’ll always remember his laugh and the joy he showed when talking about his family. He will be missed by many. Sending thoughts and prayers.
Joe was a friend from college. He was such an important friend that he was a groomsman in our wedding back in 1968. Many years later we we found each other again at Ft. Calhoun. You will always be remembered as a great guy, Joe. RIP
Dear Kitty and family: I am so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. We were neighbor’s when I was a small kid, and Joe always had time to play catch or throw a football when I asked him. I am sure he could have found many other things to do, but he always made time. I will always remember that about Joe.
From all of Joe’s Driver Ed Buddies, please accept our condolences. RIP
I am so heartbroken to hear about our beloved Joe. I worked with Joe for many years at JC Penney’s and whenever I saw Joe, I just lit up. Joe was the best and I can’t believe he is gone. My condolences to Joe’s family. I was one of many students that loved Joe. I honestly believe every student he taught loved him. He was a fine man and I have many fond memories of him in school…and at J.C. Penny’s when I would bump into him. He will be missed by myself and many many others.

Kitty, Cindy, Chris, Beth and Patrick, we are so saddened by Joe’s death, but thankful for having known him and for the thousands of young lives he impacted so positively. Y’all are in our prayers, and know that God will have His loving and comforting arms around you in the upcoming days, weeks and months. Love, Becky, Tim and Steve
May I also offer my prayers and condolences to the Heimann family. Joe Heimann made a connection with most if not all he taught including my FCHS class of 1977. Just two short years ago at our 40th Reunion he took to the time to come and participate, visiting with each of us as we remembered times long before. As other former students have noted above his connection was a gift shared by many. And here it is 40 plus years later that we who had only a brief time with the man … remember fondly. At the end of the day that itself is a testament of who he was to us, I can only imagine what he was even more to his family. May the love of Jesus surround you as you now celebrate his time on earth and his “graduation” to Heaven.
Kitty, thinking of you and keeping you in prayer. Joe was such a special man. I feel blessed to have known him. Happy memories of college days together. May God’s peace and comfort surround you.
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Heiman was my Social Studies teacher. I am a graduate of Fort Calhoun class of 1978. I always enjoyed his class & our conversations whenever we met after graduation. He was a patient man & a good teacher.
