Josephine Ann (Gulizia) Mickells

Josephine Ann (Gulizia) Mickells

August 8, 1925 – May 19, 2020

Josephine Ann (Gulizia) Mickells, also known as Nana and Grandma Jo to her many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was born on August 8, 1925 in Omaha to Antonino and Maria Gulizia, immigrant parents from Carlentini, Italy. She went home to be with our Lord on May 19, 2020 at the age of 94.

Josephine grew up in Little Italy with her five siblings and moved to South Omaha to finish raising her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joseph and Phil; sister, Mary Skradski; loving granddaughter, Regina Dixon.  She is survived by her children: Mary Jo Dixon (Bill), Robert Mickells (Lorraine), and Lori McIntyre; grandchildren: William Dixon, Jr. (Megan), Joseph Dixon (Julie), Mary Kay Stevens (Clay), Danielle Mayer (John), Alex McIntyre (Katy), Kevin McIntyre (Katy), and Katelyn Khan (Jake); eleven great-grandchildren: Tannor, Connor, Carter, Liam, Champ, Tripp, Livia, Lincoln, Bennett, Sarah, and Abby; sisters, Louise Kojdecki and Nancy Chopski; many nieces and nephews and other loving friends.

Josephine was a very kind and loving mother, and friend to all. Always a good listener, she was a woman of few words.  She loved spending time with family and friends and especially loved going out to dinner and long car rides.  She loved her family very much and will be terribly missed.

During her last months on earth, her body was getting weak and God knew it was time to bring her home to be with Him.  We are all grateful for the many memories we have with her, and we know she is with our heavenly Father and her suffering is now over.

To the Mickells Family: We are very saddened for the loss of Aunt Josie.
What a long life she lived. Longevity really runs through the Gulizia Sisters.
Her life was truly a celebration and the way she lived it.
