Joyce Elizabeth Erickson

March 3, 1954 – February 18, 2019

Joyce Elizabeth Erickson, age 64, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019 under the care of VNA Hospice at Omaha’s Life Care Center.  She was born on March 3, 1954 in Omaha to John E. Erickson and Mary E. (Pettigrew) Erickson.  Joyce graduated from Benson High School in 1972 and went to work at Brandeis as secretary.  She was a member of Dundee Presbyterian Church.  She worked for the Nebraska unemployment service until moving to Las Vegas and on to California.  She returned to Omaha and worked for MBS for a number of years. Her most important role was caregiving for her mother and father, and later for her longtime companion, Ed Miller, all of whom passed from cancer.

Joyce enjoyed being with friends and loved family gatherings. She was fun-loving, caring, had an engaging smile and a big heart. She was also a rabid fan of “Gunsmoke” and she liked to fish and to journal.

After Ed’s passing, her companion and protector was her dog known as Mr. Dillon, who passed just a month prior to her.

She is survived by her sister, Linda Wiig (Thomas) of Duluth, MN; niece, Erin Wiig and nephew, David Wiig; aunts, uncles and many cousins.

VISITATION begins on Saturday, May 4th at 1pm at the West Center Chapel, followed by a MEMORIAL SERVICE at 2pm at the mortuary.

Joyce as well as her family express thanks to the entire Methodist Hospital care team, including drivers and valets, and to VNA Hospice.

If so desired, memorials can be directed to the Nebraska Humane Society or the World Wildlife Fund.

Joyce was a childhood friend of mine. I’ll always remember how much fun she was to be with and yes she had a true love for Gunsmoke! My condolences go out to her family and all the people who were in her life. Peace and Blessings.
