Judith J. Kitson

Judith J. (Avard) Kitson

November 14, 1940 – August 23, 2020

Judi was born in Omaha on November 14, 1940 to her loving parents Richard Avard and Mary Imogene “Jeanne” Norman.  It was special that she and her mom actually shared the same birthday!  She was baptized at Kountze Memorial Lutheran and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran.  She and her older brother Dick had a happy childhood growing up in the Aksarben area.  Since it was just the two of them, they especially enjoyed all the wonderful times and holidays they spent with their close family friends, the Marinos.

During her first marriage, Judi received the blessing of her sons Kurt and Kent.  These boys were absolutely the joy of her life!  Being a MOM was her calling.  And she did an amazing job of it!

She married George on March 25, 1972 and was blessed with two more children Mark and Beth.  She loved them as her own, even though they did not live together.  She was thankful to see her family grow.

Judi loved her parents dearly and talked to them daily from the time she left home, until the day they passed away.  When they could no longer live alone, she and George welcomed them into their home for their remaining years.  She was a very loving daughter and a wonderful caregiver.

Her youngest son Kent passed away in 2009 after a lifelong battle with diabetes.  She missed him dearly.

She was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Cody, Ashley, Kiley, Zach, Jack, Caitlin and Colin and 2 great-grandchildren, Luke and Cooper.  She absolutely LOVED being a Grammy!

Her dear husband, and our dad, George passed away in 2016 and that has been the most difficult part of these last four years.  After 44 years of marriage, she missed him so much!  And looked forward to the day they would be reunited.

Family and friends were very important to Judi.  She cherished her brother Dick and really enjoyed spending time with his whole family!  She especially loved ‘galivanting around’ in her prized red VW Bug Convertible with a few very special ladies.

Judi was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998 and multiple myeloma in 2005.  She fought those battles very courageously.  She moved into her apartment a little over two years ago.  It was difficult at first, as she missed the home where she and George had made so many special memories.  But as she became more comfortable in her new surroundings and made some dear friendships, she finally began to call it home.

Now Judi is in her ETERNAL home.  She is surrounded by the love of Jesus and her family members that she once missed so dearly.
