June 21, 1941-October 29, 2023

Judy was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she attended Catholic School for grades  K-12.  She moved to Omaha to attend Duchesne College, where she studied Elementary Education.  She taught in Omaha until she moved with her husband to California, New Mexico, Ohio and West Virginia, as he completed his training in Endocrinology.  They moved back to Omaha in 1975, where she was a wife and mother.  She spent much of her time volunteering in a variety of organizations,  such as the Young Matrons, Assistance League of Omaha, as well as the Christ Child Society.  Most of her later volunteering on was devoted to Bergan Mercy Hospital, where she served on the Auxiliary Board, and as a buyer for the Hospital gift shop.

Judy is survived by her spouse, Dr. Paul Steffes; two children, Dave (Ann) and Kristin Stahel (Harry);  6 grandchildren: Josh, Nick, Zack, Matthew, Andrew and Charlotte.

VISITATION: Monday, November 6, 2023, 10-11 a.m., St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 11802 Pacific St. followed by MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: at 11 a.m. INTERMENT: Omaha National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Cloisters on the Platte.

    So very sorry to hear of Judy passing. May our Lord grant you peace and comfort. I worked with Judy at Bergen on the exhilarate board and also I wonder of Christ child socity.

    Dear Dr Steffes, Kristin and Dave, I truly believe that your mom is in a better place, though it is so painful to let her go. I pray for y’all all the grace and kindness, which exemplified Mrs Steffes, Pkeae let the grandchildren know that they are in my heart as well.

    I shall always cherish the wonderful memories of Judy when we met at Duchesne. Her friendship and support after will be remembered forever.

    We are deeply sorry for your loss, i met Judy in the Bergan Mercy Auxiliary. She was so much fun to work with and will be missed by many.
