Julia Ann “Julie” Milota

Julia Ann “Julie” Milota

September 25, 1942 – January 31, 2022

Age 79

Earth lost a beautiful soul in the passing of Julia Ann Milota on January 31, 2022.  Julie was born in Omaha to Charles and Elizabeth Zikas on September 25, 1942, with Ray as her big brother and Don and Ed following as younger brothers.  Julie married her high school sweetheart, John C. Milota, Jr., and they moved to an acreage outside of Papillion, Nebraska where they cherished being surrounded by nature for over 50 years.

Hardworking Julie maintained the wildlife surrounding her home, tirelessly feeding cracked corn to the deer every winter, Oreos to the opossums, and growing mealworms in her garage for the bluebirds who would come flying from all directions at her call to eat the worms off a platter in her hand.  Not one to shirk work, she went into labor with her third child while on the roof putting shingles up on her home.

Julie nurtured many hobbies and interests.  She loved traveling out-of-state with her bowling league for many years.  Julie spent many summers combing through garage sales with her mother to find treasures of antiques and glassware.  She raised and showed champion Pekingese dogs in the Nebraska Kennel Club and was a Chief Ring Steward.  As part of the Greater Omaha Orchid Society, she had a hand in placing choice orchids for the Henry Doorly Zoo Lied Jungle.  Julie was especially enthusiastic about the Bluebirds Across Nebraska group and was a Sarpy County Coordinator with them until her passing.  As proof that she loved the land she lived on, her Gator had more miles on it than her truck.

Julie is survived by husband, John C. Milota, Jr.; children, John C. Milota III, Janet Horney (Greg); grandchildren: Crystal, John, Valerie, Alex, Tyler; 8 great-grandchildren. Julie was preceded in death by daughter, Debra; daughter-in-law, Debra (John); parents, Charles and Elizabeth Zikas; brothers: Ray, Don, and Ed Zikas.

VIGIL SERVICE: Friday, February 4th, 7pm at West Center Chapel with visitation from 5-7pm.  FUNERAL: Saturday, February 5th, 11am at West Center Chapel.  Interment: Calvary Cemetery,  In lieu of flowers, memorials will be collected for the Bluebirds Across Nebraska, PO Box 67157, Lincoln, NE 68506.
