Julie Ann Bizal
September 9, 1938 – June 16, 2023
Julie Ann Bizal was born to Joseph and Honora Herek on September 9, 1938. She was a lifelong resident of South Omaha. From an early age she and her siblings worked at the family grocery store, Herek’s IGA. Julie earned a degree in education from the College of Saint Mary. Around that time, she met a young man also from South Omaha, Mike. They soon married and started a family. Julie shared her love for learning with her four children: Patty, Tom, Kevin, and Jeff.
Julie started her career teaching elementary school. After a few years she found her calling as the Director of Religious Education at Saints Peter and Paul School and Parish. Julie served in this role for over 20 years. She retired and focused her time on family. Julie’s greatest love was family. She was a warm and caring mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Julie passed peacefully in her sleep on June 16, 2023. While her family grieves her loss, we take comfort knowing she has been reunited with Mike.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Honora Herek; husband, Michael; infant son, Michael Joseph; sisters, Kathleen Norris, Mary Herek; brother, Tom Herek. Julie is survived by her children: Patty Dornacker (Doug), Tom Bizal (Kathy), Kevin Bizal, and Jeff Bizal (Jaime); grandchildren: Alex Dornacker, Joe Bizal, Kyle Bizal (Jordan), Anna Cedfeldt (Jared), Matt Bizal, Drew Bizal, and Ben Bizal; great-grandchildren: Brayden, Tyler, Emberlyn and Lillian; sisters, Jane Sterba, Colleen Tetrealt; brother, Joe Herek; many nieces and nephews.

May your memories provide comfort as you grieve the loss of your mother. We will keep you in our thoughts as you celebrate her life.
I knew Julie as my kids’ religious ed director and fellow parishioner, but she and Mike were also my neighbors on Trail Creek. She was a sweet and loving lady. I was very lucky to reconnect with her on Facebook in the last few years. My sincere sympathy goes to all of the Bizal family.
