Justino Gomez Reyes

Justino Gomez Reyes

September 26, 1966 – January 12, 2023

SERVICES: Monday, January 16th at 2pm at the West Center Chapel, with VISITATION until 4:30pm.  Interment in Austin, Texas.  Memorials may be directed to the family for his daughter Jessica’s college fund.

Justino “Papi Jus” was born in Piedra Parada, Zacualpan, Mexico. He always loved athletics, especially running, which was his passion, and he was pretty good at it. He was so energetic and dynamic, and he was a peacemaker as well.

Justino moved to the U.S.A. in August of 1988. He always dreamt of having his own business. He was a really good teacher, especially in cooking, which was his specialty. He enjoyed working in the kitchen and was patient in teaching his cooks. Justino worked as a kitchen manager at Cadillac Bar and Serrano’s, and in November of 1992, he started to work for Jazz, a Louisiana kitchen.

In December 1992, he went to Mexico to get married. When he came back to the USA in January of 1993, he was not sure he still had a job, but to his surprise, the people at Jazz wanted him to come back to work. After working for Jazz for several years, the company offered to make Justino a partner, but instead, he moved with his wife to Kansas City, Missouri, where he would make his dream come true—to own his own business.

Justino and his wife of twelve years at that time had a baby girl in 2004, Jessica. He was so proud of his daughter! He wanted her to go to Creighton University for college because she had told him she was interested in the medical field. Justino and Angelico just celebrated their 30th year of marriage on December 19, 2022.

Justino was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Gómez and Maria de Jesús Reyes. He is survived by his wife, Angelica Maria; daughter, Jessica; brothers and sisters: Romualdo Gómez (Manuela), Javier Gómez (Esmeralda), Carolina Gómez, Eleuterio Gómez (Angelica), Gloria Gómez (Jorge), Tomasa Gómez (Mario), Gerardo Gómez (Erika), Oscar Gómez (Nancy), and Veronica Gómez; many nieces and nephews, other family members, and friends.
