Katherine C. Burns Hansen

May 12, 1932 – September 21, 2020

 

Katherine was born to Herman and Ferne Paulsen on May 12, 1932.  She was the 4th of 6 children.  She grew up in Holcombe, Wisconsin and went to college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  She was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority and graduated with a degree in teaching.  She started her career in teaching gourmet foods and sewing.  Later, she taught in Millard Public Schools for 25 years at Millard Central Middle School.  While teaching she went on to get her master’s degree in counseling.

Katherine was the mother of 5 children and enjoyed that role very much.  She loved her 9 grandchildren and spoke of them often.  Anyone that knew her would say she was a kind, caring, friendly person.  During her retirement she enjoyed painting, Nebraska Football, playing bridge and traveling to visit friends and relatives in addition to sights around the world.

Survived by daughters: Cynthia (Dave) Hitch, Anne (Dwayne) Blakemore, and Lisa (Konrad) Broer; siblings: Donna Anderson, Rosella Paulsen, and Kay (Dave) Wiles; 9 grandchildren: Dan, Matt, Katie, Drew Hitch; Bradley and Marissa Blakemore; and Collin, John Paul and Grace Broer.  Preceded in death by her husband, Noel Hansen; sons, Michael and Wayne Burns; and brothers, Wayne and Ivan Paulsen.

Memorials to the family for later donation to a heart association.  VISITATION following CDC guidelines: Sunday, September 27th from 10am to 11am, at Rejoice Lutheran Church (2556 So. 138th St.) followed by MEMORIAL SERVICE at 11am.  (Masks required)  She will be laid to rest on Tuesday, September 29th, 2020 at Holcombe Cemetery, Holcombe, WI (State Hwy. 27 at 250 Avenue/Fisher Dr. (0.1 mile south of St Joseph’s Catholic cemetery)
