Katherine (Ekholm) “Kathy” Farrell

Katherine (Ekholm) “Kathy” Farrell

Jan 3, 1951 – Feb 8, 2018

Age 67.  Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.  She was born to Bob and Sherry (Smith) Ekholm in St. Louis.  She graduated from Omaha Westside High School in 1969 along with her high school sweetheart and husband of 35 years (Gary).  She retired after 24 years from the Pathology Center at Methodist Hospital as a Client Service Specialist and continued as a dedicated volunteer.

Kathy was a kind, generous, happy person and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  She enjoyed walking her dog, reading, cooking, spoiling her grandchildren, and being with her family.  She especially enjoyed traveling – whether it was to Hawaii, Europe, California, Montana or around Nebraska.   Throughout her cancer diagnosis, she showed strength, courage, honesty and love for family and friends.  Her infectious smile and laugh will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gary Farrell. She is survived by her children, Andy Farrell (Danielle Hamon) and Sarah Hansen (Kyle); grandchildren, Will and Molly Hansen; brother, Chris Ekholm (Ann); sisters, Karen Ekholm and Kirsten Yokoi (Bobby); nephew, Alex Yokoi.

VISITATION: Monday, Feb. 12th from 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel.  SERVICES: Tuesday, Feb. 13th at 11am at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 925 S. 84th St.  Memorials are suggested to Project Healing Waters or to the Open Door Mission.

My memories of Kathy go way back to grade school. Eventually, I was privileged to be Kathy’s room mate in Lincoln, NE. Oh, we had so much fun!! I don’t think I’ve met a more humble, sweet, modest, or cheerful person anywhere. I will cherish my memories of Kathy–and of course her beloved Gary–forever. I’m so sorry for your loss of her. May she rest in peace.

I met Kathy through her sister, Karen, at Church. Kathy was a very loving and caring individual. She faced her battle with cancer like a real warrior with such strength. I will miss Kathy and know the Angels welcomed her into Heaven.
