Kathleen Turner Jeffries

JEFFRIES, Kathleen Turner, Jun 28, 1944 – May 30, 2009, of Omaha. Beloved wife of Richard P. Jeffries and beloved mother of Rick Jeffries, Anne Collins, Lisa (Keith) Keller, and Jane (Mica Racine) Jeffries. Adored grandmother of Katie and Emily Collins; Paul and Claire Jeffries; Sydney, Cole, Blake and Graham Keller; Henry Racine and a granddaughter to be born soon. Also survived by brother William G. Turner and sisters Susan (Lee) Foreman, Jane (Roger) Schumaker and Elizabeth (Hart) Buerkle. Preceded in death by parents Catherine O. and William J. Turner. A long-time community leader, Kathie was chair-elect of the board of directors of the College of Saint Mary, chair of the City of Omaha Design Review Board, a member of the steering committee for Omaha Table Talk and a member of the technical advisory committee for Omaha By Design. She previously led the boards of Catholic Charities of Omaha, Girls Incorporated of Omaha, Marian High School, the City of Omaha Zoning Board of Appeals, the City of Omaha Planning Board, and the Douglas County Reorganization Task Force. She previously served on the boards of the YWCA and the Women’s Fund of Omaha. Kathie had also been a member of the Omaha/Douglas City County Merger Commission. Kathie also served on the University of Nebraska President’s Council, the University of Nebraska Medical Center Board of Advisors and the advisory council of Campfire of the Midlands. She was twice recognized as the Archbishop’s Outstanding Board member for Catholic Charities, and received the Bergan Mercy Medical Center Mary-Martha Award, the Girls Incorporated Founders Award, the Omaha by Design Laurels Award, the Key to the City of Omaha, the YWCA Outstanding Woman of Distinction for Community Advocacy award, the Marian High School Marian Award, and the Junior League of Omaha Distinguished Sustainer award. Kathie was a passionate advocate for social justice, the advancement of women and girls, and the city of Omaha. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the College of Saint Mary, 7000 Mercy Road, Omaha, NE 68106. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 5pm-8pm at the West Center Chapel. Celebration of Life Service Wednesday, 11am, at the College of Saint Mary.
