Kathryn A. “Alice” Wood passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 28, 2024, surrounded by loving family in her last days. She was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on October 4, 1936, to Jesse and Helen Main and grew up in her small hometown as one of nine children.
In 1959, she married Jerry Wood and moved to Omaha. They started a family, and she continued her teaching career. While raising her family, she was determined to continue her education and complete her degree, gradually earning credits at Buena Vista College and UNO for over 17 years.
She had an immeasurable impact on countless children as a teacher of forty years. Her influence on young lives was felt by her long-time presence at Joslyn and Omaha Public Schools, Catholic CCD classes and in Girl Scouts. She instilled her passion and love for teaching, caring for children and family in her daughters and son.
Alice was a strong and independent woman and took pride in the family she raised and loved spending time with them on the family campout, playing cards and games on holidays, long car rides and family dinners at Joe Tess’s and Surfside. She was a devout Catholic, dedicated to her faith and religiously participating in daily Mass, saying the Rosary, and cheering for her favorite Catholic team, Notre Dame.
Alice loved her music, especially jazz, and remained an excellent dancer throughout her life, even taking lessons with her daughter and grandchildren. You could find her moving on the dance floor to anything from the Waltz to the Watermelon Crawl!
Later in life, Alice enjoyed spending time dancing, traveling, dinners out and laughing with her companion Jimmy Loye. She loved practicing tai chi, watching over her flowers and plants, birds in her bird feeders and serving as President of the Plant Club. She enjoyed outings with the Red Hat Club, Teacher’s Society, long-time friends, and her fun-loving sisters.
Alice could be found any day of the week at the movies or shopping for a bargain. She will be sorely missed by her family but will surely be watching over them from above, letting them know of any coupons or sales coming their way and praying for their health and happiness.
She is survived by her children: Kevin Wood, Kathy Hartman (John), Kris Wood (Eric), Kolleen Mancuso (Mike), Kourtney Brodin (Monty); grandchildren: Larson and Walker Wood, Ryan (Bre) and Nathan (Bobbi) Hartman, Brian, Bailee and Brett Brodin, Michael Mancuso; great-grandchildren Brooks: Miles, Mia, Lilly, Wyatt, and Wesley Hartman.; siblings: Cherie Eicksteadt, Lowell Main, Karen Nutt, Sarah Brown (Tom). She was preceded in death by her siblings: Jim Main, Marilynn Harrington, Raymond Main, and Barbie Lopez.

I am the son of her Aunt Leona Main Droessler. Please be assured of my prayers for the Wood family during this time. Cousin Alice and Uncle Jesse were my godparents. I saw Alice in Omaha about 20 years ago. Blessings.
