Kathryn Mae (Nelson) Thorne
August 30, 1930 – November 13, 2021
Born in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Erhard and Mildred Nelson, Kathryn attended Hastings College where she met her husband. She taught music and English prior to having children, and again once her children were in school. After retiring, Kathryn became a housemother in Lincoln, NE (Alpha-Phi) and then in Tuscon, AZ (AEPhi); retiring again at the young age of 83!
Kathryn was passionate about music, mentoring her sorority girls, PEO, the Huskers and holiday traditions, to name a few. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Kathryn was active in the Episcopal faith and church, directing choirs and as an Altar Guild member.
She is survived by her three children: Julie Chamberlain of Florida, Susan Thorne-Bond (James) of Elkhorn, NE, and Fritz Thorne of LaVista, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, Erhard and Mildren (Stenman) Nelson of Gothenburg, NE; her sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Keith Bakula of Golden, CO; and her son-in-law, Edward T. Chamberlain III of Omaha, NE.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the St. Monica’s Guild at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 925 South 84th Street, Omaha, NE 68114.

So sorry to hear of her passing. She was a great teacher and lovely woman who taught me to read music and to discover the pleasure of singing in a group. She will be missed.
Such a lovely lady. Having spent years of Monday night dinners together, I have many fond memories. My deepest sympathy.
