Kay Sandra Zomer Menning was born on September 24, 1943 to Herman and Nellie Zomer in Corsica, South Dakota. At the time of Kay’s birth, Herman was serving in the Army and stationed in Germany during WWII. Because of this, he did not get to be with Kay much until she was two years old after he returned from the war. Kay went to elementary and high school in Corsica. After high school she attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa where she and Jim started dating. Kay and Jim were married on June 16, 1964 and later moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she completed her degree in education at UNO and started their family together.
Kay Menning was a faithful member of Westwood Community Church for many years. She served this community in many ways, but her favorite ministry was with the preschool. She had a true love for the littlest of learners and loved teaching about Jesus.
Her favorite people to share her faith with were her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy! Not a conversation with Kay passed without her mentioning them. She enjoyed watching them participate in all their numerous activities, but mostly their sporting events. Kay was always up to date on Husker football, Creighton basketball, or whatever sport was in season. She also enjoyed crafting, music, playing games, and visiting with friends and family.
Kay passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 75 on August 16, 2019 (her mother’s birthday). She is survived by her husband James; 2 sons: Jason (Ann) and Mark (Melinda); 6 grandchildren: Ethan, Jillian, Colton, Caleb, Jacob, and Hannah Menning; 4 siblings: Clarice Zomer, Judy (Keith) Ligtenberg, Mary (Doyle) Bertram, and Bruce (Kathy) Zomer; sisters-in-law: Deloris (Hal) Toppen, Mary Fuller, and Phyllis (Ken) Hanks; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws: Don Fuller, Eunice (Art) Bordewyk, and Roy (Mary) Menning.

Jason and family: So sorry about the loss of your Mom. It is hard to loose your Mom as I lost mine in March. Cherish the memories. I so enjoyed visiting with your Mom at Grandparent’s Day at St. Pat’s. She was a lovely lady and loved her family, especially her grandchildren so much!
