Kermit L. Clayton
August 19, 1931 – July 28, 2025
Kermit Leon Clayton was born on August 19, 1931, in Gulfport, Mississippi to Leon and Dora (nee Enewold) Clayton. They returned to Macedonia, Iowa area when Kermit was about 6 years old. He attended school in Macedonia and graduated from high school in 1948. He went to work for Gate City Steel and was a crane operator his entire career. Kermit married Elsie (nee Shockey) Clayton in 1962. After she passed away in 1974, he married Virgina C. (nee Schuetze) Clayton in 1980, and they were married until she passed away in 2019. He continued to live in his house until 2023 and then moved to assisted living until his passing.
Kermit was a character, known for his sharp wit, resourcefulness, and creativity. He loved to hunt and would often wheel himself to Zorinsky Lake in his motorized wheelchair which he claimed went 10 miles per hour. Kermit was known for being speedy whether driving a car or operating his wheelchair. He loved his remote-control airplanes and would fly them with his friends at the park. He had a talent for painting, loved painting landscapes, and passed on several beautiful paintings to loved ones.
Kermit will be missed by family, friends, and caregivers at his assisted living facility, but he’s reunited with his loving spouses and family.
Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, August 2nd, 10am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church (5801 Oak Hills Drive).
Interment: Calvary
