She was so amazingly compassionate towards our entire furry clan. She educated in such a way that it didn’t make you feel dumb. She cried with us when we had to make tough decisions. We are so blessed to have had her in our lives. Her loss will be felt for a while. If I can do anything, please let me know!

My heart aches for the loss of Kim. She was an amazing friend in vet school- our study sessions at Radina’s coffee house, Little Apple Brewery, or Tuttle Lake are moments I always think of when I think of her. She had genuine kindness and compassion. Her laugh is something I will always remember. Those memories help to fill the void in my heart. I pray that the years of great memories will help to fill the void in yours. Sending all my love.

Dr. Patera was the finest vet I’ve ever met. Her smile was beautiful and contagious. She had such a calming and fun personality. She really care about her patients and their families. Such a beautiful person inside and out. I’ll miss her kind demeanor and expertise. Gone way too soon. St. Francis of Asissi must have really needed her in heaven. God bless Dr. Patera and her loved ones.

My last dog saw all the vets at her office. He loved them all. I will remember her kindness, thoughtful care of him. I think of him running to her in heaven like hey I know you. Wagging his tail for her.

I met Kim in veterinary school and was always impressed by her positivity. She was such fun to be around and always knew how to lighten up the mood. She was often the smartest one in the group but was so good at pretending not to be for the rest of us. I will be praying for her family at this time and hope they know how many lives Kim touched.

  • Eric Thompson Posted October 17, 2018 6:45 pm

  • Brandi Holys, Deuce & Mischa Posted October 19, 2018 8:31 pm

My condolences to family and colleagues as they process deep grief. Dr. Patera was a professional and loving veterinarian, among the 24th Street team, to my pets before I moved my pets out of state for a temp business relocation. I deeply feel loss for not only a consummate and trusted veterinary professional who advised me, but also for one of the kindest souls I have been blessed with meeting. Two years ago as I had to send my girl dog over the rainbow bridge during a time in my life where I felt very alone and scared, Dr. Patera was there for not only my dog but for me. While providing loving medical care for my dog, she provided the deepest compassion and care to me, when I needed it the most. She helped me carry my heavy heart and do right by my loving, furry companion, and for that I will be forever grateful. May knowing the impact she had on both animals and their people, provide some solace during this time of grief. My deepest sympathies.

It was so easy to put all my trust in Kim, knowing that my animals were receiving the best care from a deeply empathetic, skilled person, She was with me in the room when one of my cat’s took his last breath. Just like me, Kim also had tears in her eyes, approaching me for a hug me when she sensed the time was right, helping to take the sting out of a deeply painful moment. Her care and support won’t be forgotten.
