KRIST, Lavern Edward

Lavern Edward Krist May 16, 1927 – Dec 6, 2016 Lavern Edward Krist (age 89) was born in Omaha, NE on May 16th,1927 to Edward and Helen (Vierregger) Krist. He grew up on a farm just south of Papillion, NE and graduated as salutatorian from Papillion High School in 1945. Following high school graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served as a Corporal. Upon returning, Vern met his wife, Lee, and they were united in marriage in 1949 and were married for 67 years. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Susan and Patty. After military service, Vern attended refrigeration school in Omaha, then became employed by OPPD where he worked for 42 years. While employed with OPPD he attended Midlands College and the University of Nebraska. He was a volunteer fireman for over 25 years in several small towns, was involved with the Chamber of Commerce, the Lyons Club, the Red Cross, and served as a nursing home board member. After retirement, he volunteered at Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak & Cutler Mortuary. He enjoyed playing golf, cheering for the Husker football team as a season ticket holder for over 50 years, helping out at Baker’s Candies, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vern passed away on Tuesday, December 6th at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE. Lavern is survived by his wife, Lee Krist; daughter, Patty Baker (Kevin); son-in-law, John Sandahl; sister, Esther Riha; five grandchildren: Megan Pike (Brian), Tammy Voisin (Jim), Jennifer Chaney (Brian), Todd Baker (Amy), and Paul Baker (Ellie); thirteen great-grandchildren; and special family friends, Avis and Resea. He was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Helen (Vierregger) Krist, and daughter, Susan Sandahl. VISITATION Friday, Dec. 9th, 9am to 10am at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 11615 “I” St., followed by SERVICES at 10am at the church. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park with military honors by Millard American Legion Post 374 & VFW Post 8334. Memorials are suggested to Brookestone Village.
