Larry D. Warner

Larry D. Warner

January 29, 1954 – September 20, 2024

Larry Dwaine Warner was born on January 29, 1954, in Shenandoah, Iowa. He was the son of Don and Bernice (Herman) Warner. He graduated from Bennington High School in Bennington, Nebraska, where he excelled in academics, football, track, and wrestling. Larry was the first state champion in wrestling at Bennington High School in 1971.  He received offers from multiple Universities to play football and wrestle. For a short time, Larry attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and planned to wrestle, but decided college was not for him.  After, he worked with his brother, Don, as an auto mechanic. Larry met Patty Pichler through mutual friends and began dating in 1974. The couple were united in marriage on July 25, 1975. Together, they enjoyed playing tennis, volleyball, and bowling.  Larry and Patty had three children: Lisa, David, and Amy. Larry was instrumental in helping his kids with math and science homework and unofficially “coaching” them in sports. He enjoyed many family vacations, especially to Colorado. After celebrating his children’s marriages, Larry and Patty welcomed six beautiful grandchildren.

In 2017, Larry retired from the Nebraska Department of Roads as a Lead Mechanic after 36 years. Larry stayed active in retirement by volunteering at Lakeside Hospital and delivering cars for Bennington Auto. He enjoyed music, food, riding his motorcycle, and perfecting his gardening skills while “battling” the suburban wildlife. He was very proud of being sober for the last 18 years. He especially loved spending time with his family and attending his six grandchildren’s activities, where he was always a passionate and vocal spectator. In March, Larry started experiencing health issues. He passed away peacefully at the University of Nebraska Medical Center after a courageous battle on Friday, September 20, 2024.

We will forever carry his memory in our hearts.

Larry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patty; daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Kaiser; son, David (Heather) Warner; daughter, Amy (Brad) Sindelar; grandchildren: Kaylee, Ava, Austin, Evan, Ellie, and Cameron; siblings: Diana (Bill) Hutcheson, Cheryl (Dave) Japp, and Linda White; sister-in-law, Sharron Warner.  Larry is also survived by Jack (Carol) Pichler, Carol (Bill) Rand, Jim Pichler, Mary Kay Pichler, Ron Pichler, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Bernice Warner; his brother, Don Warner; mother-in-law, Virginia Pichler; brothers-in-law: Tom White, Tom Book, and Dale McCurley; sisters-in-law, Charlene Pichler and Mary Pichler; and niece, Kristen Pichler.
