Larry N. Leonard

Larry N. Leonard

June 16, 1952 – January 6, 2022

Larry N. Leonard, age 69. He is survived by his wife, Raelene; child, Matthew (Valerie); grandchildren: Madison, Emily, Ashley, and Braeden; sister, Colleen Anderson (Doug); brother, Timothy (Karen). He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Leona; sister, Connie.
Larry was a loving father, grandfather, and devoted husband of 45 years. In addition to family, Larry had many hobbies and special interests in his life. He had a passion for woodworking and building furniture, creating countless pieces for friends and family over the years. His talents didn’t stop at woodworking and his hobbies and interests evolved throughout his life. Larry also loved to read, teach children, do crosswords, go fishing, refinish and upcycle furniture, and do beekeeping.

Additionally, Larry enjoyed spending time learning to quilt with his wife and church friends, creating quilts, lap-robes and most recently masks to give back to friends, charities, and Lutheran World Relief. The commonality in all these hobbies is it allowed Larry to share his talents with everyone around him and help others. Larry was always helping others around him in any way possible and never expected anything in return.

Larry also loved a good cup of coffee, and his favorite was Jamaican Blue Mountain with hazelnut syrup. His love came from a recent trip to the island where the laid-back atmosphere, serene scenery and coffee encompassed his very personality. Larry was always happy exploring new places and vacationing with his family.

We know Larry is now reunited with loved ones, drinking his cup of coffee, and watching over friends and family until we meet again.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Wednesday, January 12, 2022, 11:00AM, St. Michael Lutheran Church, 13232 Blondo Street Omaha, with lunch following at the church.  Internment will be held at a later date in Des Moines, Iowa.

Larry was one of the kindest people I know. I was blessed to have him as a co-worker and friend for many years. He even thought to text me on New Year’s Day this year and I was so honored to be among the people he calls friend. His family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. I worked with Larry at MetLife, and he was always such a great and wonderful human. My heart is saddened by the news but lifted, that he has taken the next steps and is with the Lord, Jesus.

Larry was a wonderful coworker at MetLife. I referred to Larry as our Office Dad as he always looked out for us. I enjoyed our talks about woodworking, home improvement projects and the current quilt that was being worked on. My thoughts and hugs to Larry’s family during this time.

I just learned of Larry’s passing, but as another MetLife friend and co-worker (now retired), I have many fond memories of good and wide-ranging discussions with him. My deep sympathy and sincere condolences to all of Larry’s loved ones.🌷
