Laura Kathleen Haslanger

Laura Kathleen Haslanger

 September 11, 1947 – November 25, 2024

Laura was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and lived there through her early 20s. She initially met Dave at a high school dance as a teenager. Five years later, upon returning to Michigan after Vietnam, Dave saw Laura out in public and asked her on a date. Dave and Laura got married in 1969, and recently celebrated their 55th Anniversary.

Laura and Dave moved to Nebraska with their daughters, Kim and Eve, in 1980. Throughout her life, she loved to learn new things and acquired many hobbies and skills, such as cake decorating, making jewelry, and writing calligraphy. Laura was known by Kim and Eve’s friends as a great cook and baker. She taught herself to make clothes for the girls when they were young. She also learned how to refinish furniture, and many of those pieces are in their family home to this day.

In 1987, Laura bought Accredited Insurance, where she worked until she retired in 2015. She was a shrewd businesswoman and cared greatly about helping her customers. Laura was very proud to see her family-owned business continue when Kim became an insurance agent. Many of Laura’s clients are still loyal customers of the agency today.

Laura loved spending time with her grandchildren. Over the years she made many trips to Lawrence to see her grandsons, John, Jared, and Jake, at their various sporting events or music concerts. She also enjoyed spoiling her granddaughters, Jenna and Krista, with bubble baths, baking lessons, and trips to a nearby pond to feed the ducks. Laura would also adopt four-legged family members from the Humane Society and spoiled them just like her grandchildren.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Thelma Mead; brothers: Brian, Colin, and Kevin Mead.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dave Haslanger; daughters, Kim Riha (TJ), and Eve Loos (Kevin); grandchildren: John, Jared, and Jake Loos, Jenna and Krista Riha; brother, Dennis Mead (Eileen); sister, Roberta Mead; numerous nieces and nephews.
