Flanagan, Laurence J., “Jocko,” Feb. 12, 1924 – Aug. 4, 2011. Nephew of Father Edward J. Flanagan of Boys Town; veteran of 743rd Tank Battalion and survivor of Omaha Beach, St. Lo, the Northern France hedgerows, Belgium, the Siegfried assault, Roer and Rhine River campaigns, the relief of Bastogne, the Bulge second defeat of the 1st SS Panzer Division, the Ardennes, and the Russian meeting at the Elbe. Preceded in death by parents, Michael and Winifred; wife, Dorothy; twin sister, Virginia; daughter, Ann; sons, Patrick and Kevin; infant daughters, Laura and Kathleen. Survived by son, Michael and wife, Mary Beth; son, Edward; son, James and wife, Kelly; grandchildren: John and Shannon Bergin, Katie and Colin Flanagan, Sean Flanagan. Memorials are suggested to Boys Town. VISITATION begins Monday, 5pm, Boys Town (Immaculate Conception Church), with ROSARY to follow at 7pm. FUNERAL MASS Tuesday, 10am, Immaculate Conception Church at Boys Town. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
