Lee E. Fettig

Lee E. Fettig

April 28, 1926 – April 20, 2019

Born in Pretty Prairie, Kansas to Karl and Myrtle Robey Fettig. Preceded in death by older siblings, Helen Fettig Buchele and Oscar Fettig. Drafted in 1944, Lee served as a US Army Paratrooper and enjoyed Army life, finding it to be an escape from the drudgery of life on the farm. Following the war, Lee attended the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Public Administration concentrating in city management. He was a lifelong KU basketball fan. Lee served as a city manager of Claremore, Oklahoma and La Marque, Texas. Following his city management positions, he worked for Northern Natural Gas for twenty-four years. After an early retirement, Lee did strategic planning at Bergan Mercy. He enjoyed both his time serving on the Bergan Mercy Board of Directors and as a consultant for physicians and small community hospitals. He taught Business Policy courses at UNO and loved his interactions with his students.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Donna; daughters: Debra Burton (Tom) and grandchildren, Steve and Annie; and Shelly Petrow (Nick) and grandchildren, Sophia, Anna and Nicole.

Private Burial with a MEMORIAL SERVICE at a later date. No flowers, please.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Omaha Public Library Foundation, First Unitarian Church, or a charity of the giver’s choice.
