Leila F. Johnson
March 31, 1932 – March 8, 2025
Leila F. Johnson, 92, died March 8, 2025, at Brookestone Village in Omaha, Nebraska, surrounded by family. She was born March 31, 1932, in Valparaiso, Nebraska, the only child of Francis W. and Goldie H. (Carlson) Brown.
Leila graduated from Hastings High School in 1950 and spent two years at Hastings College, where she was a member of Pi Alpha Lambda society.
On June11, 1955, Leila married Arthur D. Johnson in Hastings, Nebraska. Afterwards, they settled in the Omaha area, where Arthur was a principal at Dana Larson Roubal &Associates (DLR Group). He died October 6, 1999. She is survived by: children, Steven A. Johnson (Lisa) and Dr. Michelle F. Johnson (Jeff Jahn), both of Omaha; grandson, Bennett A. Johnson of Fort Eisenhower, Georgia. Leila was preceded in death by her
parents.
Later in life, Leila found happiness in a loving friendship with Thomas W. Thompson for over 15 years — the two spent many hours traveling, socializing and attending family events. Tom preceded her in death on May 19, 2022.
Leila was a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother. She was very involved with her children’s activities throughout their school years. She was den mother for Steven’s Cub Scout troops and coordinated the annual fundraising candy drive for Michelle’s Campfire Girls troops. She was also room mother several times for both Steven and Michelle’s elementary school classrooms.
Leila was a member of the Eastern Star for many years. She was an avid reader and was a longtime member of the Eclectic Book Club of Omaha. She also participated in
the Round Robin, a letter writing group that kept her in touch with her Hastings High School friends for over 70 years. Leila also loved animals, travel, and music—she played the piano and sang well into her later years. She was a life long member of the Methodist church.
Cremation has taken place.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 31,2025, in the chapel at Brookestone Village, 4330 S. 144th St., Omaha.
Private inurnment, Evergreen Cemetery, Omaha.
