Leonard Bunach was born in Omaha on July 1, 1934, the Son of John and Agnes Bunach. As a boy he served as an Altar Boy at St Adalbert Catholic Church. He attended South High School, and was a Green Bay Packers fan. While ice skating, he met Betty Ann Van Long, who became his wife in 1953. They raised two sons, Mark and Mike.
Leonard Served in the 301st MP POW unit at Fort Omaha from 1957-1967. In 1956, he joined the Omaha Police Department, where he served the Community for 30 years as a Patrolman, Accident Investigator, Crime Lab Technician, Auto Theft Detective, and finally a Homicide Sergeant. In 1959, when the Omaha Auto Auction came to town, Leonard worked traffic control, directing cars in and out of the auction. Sixty one years later, he finally resigned to be home with his bride dealing with memory issues. He was a living example of service, love and faith. Leonard loved his family with all his heart. His face always lit up when with his family and friends. Leonard was a man of faith, and although he did not talk about it a lot, it was apparent in the way he lived his life, served others, and loved those around him. If you knew Him, you felt in your heart the way he cared for you. A wonderful Son, Brother, Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Uncle and Friend. He was a tremendous example to his sons, of God’s love and faithfulness.
If you share his precious faith, this is not goodbye but see you later.

Our Deepest Sympathy to Leonard’s family. I knew Leonard from OPD over the years. We also bought our pool table from Leonard and family and enjoyed it for many years in our basement family room on an acerage near Fort Calhoun. Brings back old memories. Thoughts and Prayers to All. My deepest sympathy to Leonard’s family. I had the great privilege to work in the Burglary Unit with Leonard when I was a young Sergeant. Leonard was always calm, contemplative and focused. He taught me many things just by observing how he interacted with those around him.
My deepest condolences to the family. Leonard was the finest example of a family man, a professional in law enforcement as well as business and a true friend. I met Leonard soon after I joined the Omaha Police Department. As well as being a great mentor to younger officers, he didn’t mind sharing his other interest in the Omaha Auto Auction. He introduced me to auction where I was quickly impressed and become an auto auctioneer there. It was truly a pleasure to work with this kind and caring man. I deeply appreciate his guidance and support.
Our deepest sympathy to Leonard’s family. He worked here at Manheim Omaha Auto auction for many years and was loved by many! He was a wonderful man.
