PULS, Leonard R. Jul 8, 1930 Apr 5, 2014 Leonard was born July 8, 1930 in Omaha Nebraska to Rheinhard and Agnes Puls. He graduated from Tech High in 1948, then drafted into the US Army, where he served during the Korean conflict. Leonard was an Infantry Rifleman and saw extensive action on the front lines. He revisited the area he served later in life and was presented with thanks and recognition by the President of South Korea, an event that made him very proud. Leonard married Susan Carpenter on June 25, 1976. They enjoyed a full life together with their kids and grandkids, sharing their love of fishing, traveling, and boating. More than anything, Leonard loved his family. He adored his wife, took pride in his sons and daughters accomplishments, and cherished his time with his grandsons. As they entered their retirement years, Leonard and Sue traveled extensively throughout the world. Throughout the years Leonard also enjoyed golfing with his friends, hunting with his son, scuba diving with his daughter, and following his grandsons in their sporting events. He also had a passion for the Oregon Ducks football and was fortunate to attend the BCS national championship game. Leonard’s work ethic was second to none with a career that began as a soda jerk at City Drug, then on to a 37-year career with Hinky Dinky, where his duties included management of the audit and inventory crews. Subsequent to Hinky Dinkys closing, he and three partners purchased and ran their own grocery store in Council Bluffs, Iowa for eighteen years. Retirement couldnt keep him still, so ten years ago he started another career with Enterprise Rental Car, where he worked until recently. Leonard belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion Post 331, Disabled American Veterans, the 40 et 8, 25th Infantry Division Association and Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Rheinhard and Agnes Puls. He is survived by his wife, Susan L. Puls; children, Cindy Puls Pedersen (David) and James R. Puls (Lynnette); stepson, Mark Rowlette (Cheryl); five grandsons: Benjamin, Daniel, Xavier, Isaac, and Ian; brother, Larry Puls (Mary Ann); sister, Dorothy Hitt (Lee); nieces and nephews. He was a man of honor, great integrity, and love for service. He was a man that knew no stranger and always wore a smile. His legacy is not one soon to forget. He will be deeply missed.
