Linda P. Johnson

JOHNSON-Linda P. (Cummings), age 62 years. Passed away 11/11/06 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha; born 12/7/43 in Omaha to Arthur and Cathryn McLean Cummings. She graduated from Central High in 1961, and from UNO in 1965 with a BAE in English and History, and with an MS in Reading Sciences in 1973. She taught at Morton and Nathan Hale Middle Schools, retiring in 2006 after 37 years of teaching. Linda married her lifelong friend, Perry C. Johnson, on July 22, 1967. Their lives were filled with service to others. Linda was active in the Dietz Memorial United Methodist Church as organist and choir director. She also served on the Church Council and helped organize the Victorian Christmas and Centennial Celebrations. Recently, she led the campaign to raise funds to restore the church’s historical 1889 pipe organ. Linda was a member of Cosmopolitan International where she was club secretary, bulletin editor and administrative board member. She was also a charter member of two clubs within the Cornbelt Federation. Linda earned the Cosmopolitan’s 2005 International Community Service Award and twice won the International Best Newsletter Award. Linda was also a member of the SLUGO Computer Club where she served as secretary and board member and was well known for her annual presentation of computer produced Christmas decorations and gifts. She was also Site Coordinator for the SLUGO at Dietz VITA free tax assistance program. Linda was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her soul mate, best friend and adoring spouse, Perry C. Johnson; brother, Wally Cummings and Sharon McShannon; aunt Mary Cummings, all of Omaha; cousins: Charlie Cummings and wife Pat of Noblesville, IN, Mark Cummings of St. Louis, MO; goddaughters, Amanda and Jessica Reese of Bellevue, NE; the many friends she gathered wherever she was; and the thousands of educated students and hundreds of satisfied tax clients. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Langdon and his staff, as well as the staff at Lakeside Hospital for the loving care they provided. Services Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., Dietz Memorial United Methodist Church, 1423 S. 10th St. Interment, Forest Lawn. Memorials to Linda’s pet cause, the Dietz Memorial UMC Organ Restoration Fund. Visitation from 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the West Center Chapel.
