Lois A. Ourada

Lois A. Ourada

October 10, 1949 – February 17, 2025

Lois Ann Dankert was born to Richard and Martha Dankert in Central City, Nebraska on October 10, 1949. She was the youngest of four children with older brothers, Paul, Roger, and Mark.

She spent her early years on a Nebraska farm being raised to help her mother with the kitchen and farm chores a little girl is able to help with.

Early school years were at a one room school with an outhouse and pump for water. The school was referred to as only District 19. Upon her father passing when Lois was eight, the family moved to Seward, Nebraska where she attended St. John’s Lutheran Grade School, being confirmed at the end of her eighth-grade year.

Her time at Concordia High School in Seward gave her many lifelong friends which have remained in continued contact throughout their lives.

Lois attended Concordia Teachers College for one year after graduating from high school, then onto University of Nebraska School of Nursing in Omaha. Lois graduated nursing school in 1972 with a BSN degree. She remained a nurse at University of Nebraska Hospital for 35 years, retiring in 2007 after spending the majority of that time on a Med-Surg floor. Lois then continued as a School Nurse for seven years until 2014. After 42 years of nursing, it was time to move on.

Lois met her husband Bob in a chance encounter and after dating several years were married on October 4, 1980. Their daughter, Rachel was born in 1983 and the family, after Rachel’s marriage to Matthew Radik in 2007 was then complete.

Throughout her life, Lois enjoyed gardening, spending hours tending her flower beds and pots. Time spent with friends was her greatest joy. As a member of Mount Calvary, she was on various boards, committees, and volunteer work assignments in the forty plus years as a member.

Lois will truly be missed by all her friends and family.

Survived by husband, Robert; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Matthew Radik; brothers: Paul Dankert, Roger Dankert (Ellie), and Mark Dankert (Cathy Langfeldt).

Over the past year I have been so lucky to have been able to spend time with Lois. It was important to me that every morning I’d have a quick visit with her, because how could you have a bad day after seeing that smile. At dinner I would sit with her while she ate and I’d tell her about my day, during activities we would giggle together. To Bob and the rest of her family, my deepest condolences, Lois is SUCH an amazing woman and she deeply impacted my life.

What do you say for the loss of a dear friend. I started my nursing career in 1970, at UNMC and here comes this Lois with long brown hair. Oh, the memories. We worked together for many years and then always kept in contact. Lunches, dinners even vacations together. Never a moment lost when we were all together. Always fun and laughter. Yes, Lois, I bet you are up there in Heaven telling stories about us and all the things we did. Bob and Rachel, there are very few people I call my dear friend and she was one. She loved her family with everything she could give. You were blessed to have her and I was blessed to be a part of that. I have over 50 years of pictures of us together at everything we ever did. What a treasure. I will surely miss her as I know you all will too. Thank you Bob for sharing her with me for all those years. Love you Lois. You will never be forgotten. Julie Kullbom.

When I was beginning my nursing career in 1979 at UNMC Lois was one of the nurses who helped guide me. She was so smart, cool under pressure, and always ready to lend a hand or give advice. She taught me many things that I have passed on to others and so her nursing legacy continues. Bob and Rachel, she was a special person and I count myself lucky to have known her!

Lois was a legend in the neighborhood association. She understood how important it was to have festive gatherings for developing an active neighborhood. She would purchase only the best cake from Costco and the highest quality buns from Rotella’s for our events. When we dedicated the new playground equipment at Schroeder Vogel Park, Lois organized the serving of over 200 hot dogs in thirty minutes. She made our Chili Fest a wonderful experience. Her husband Bob won the Chili Championship one year with his throw together recipe. Lois had a smile and a love for our neighborhood that brightened our lives. We will miss her greatly. Bob and family has our deepest sympathy.

Lois was quite the nurse mentor for me on 6 West. So smart and witty, cool under pressure. She will be greatly missed. Prayers to her family, God Bless.

Very tragic to have lost my beloved aunty. I will carry many cherished childhood memories of her. I will remember her sense of humor most fondly and cracking jokes with her on our patio.

My deepest condolences to the other members of our family and the many people she had touched.

I worked with Lois for many years when she was involved with the Aksarben Elmwood Park Neighborhood association. She was always funny and enthusiastic and read to assist with any project. I will miss her smiling face. Rest in Peace.

Lois was one of my first mentors as a new RN on Six West. She was no-nonsense, ran a tight ship, and taught me the fundamentals of nursing. Her example has remained in my heart and mind throughout the years. I feel so blessed to have known her and very privileged to be one of those nurses under her wing. She will be missed.
