Lois A. Pillen

PILLEN, Lois A. Nov 7, 1929 – Jan 23, 2014 As in her life, Lois passed with grace and dignity at Hospice House in Omaha. A lifelong Nebraskan, she was born to Paul and Lena Paap at the family farm outside of Otoe, NE. Always a bright and enthusiastic learner, she excelled at vocal music, science, literature and drama. She completed high school at Otoe, and went to college at Peru and Wayne State Teachers’ Colleges. Lois met her husband, Eugene, at Wayne. They married in 1952 and began their teaching careers and family. She taught high school English and home economics in several Nebraska cities. After earning a master’s degree at UNL, she worked with Nebraska Public Television as a literature instructor. A loving dedicated mother, Lois became increasingly busy with her five children: Paula, Beth Ann, Douglas, Bart and Cory. Lois has five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She ensured her children gained an appreciation of education, fitness, practical life skills through 4-H or Boy Scouts, and creativity. Lois fostered her own creativity by becoming an accomplished watercolorist, traveling 32 countries with the Friendship Force, attending community concerts with friends, and remaining physically and intellectually active. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; brother, Robert Paap of North Carolina; and her parents. Lois wished that in lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials be directed to organizations for which she volunteered: Hospice House or Bergan Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. The family will receive friends Friday, January 24th from 5:00pm to 7pm with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm at the West Center Chapel. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Saturday, January 25th at 10am at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 1920 N 102nd St., Omaha. Interment at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
