Lois A. Redding

Lois A. Redding

July 21, 1927-June 10, 2024

Lois was born to her parents, William George Miles and Florence Jane Hoskins.  They immigrated to the United States in approximately 1907.  William was a brick layer in the Country Club district. Lois and her twin, Louis, were born in Omaha, Nebraska, on July 21, 1927.  However, Louis died at six months of age from whooping cough.  Her father died when she was nine years old.  Lois left high school in the 10th grade to support her mother.

She worked at Merchant Biscuit Company.   During that time, she met her husband, Gerald.  They married on May 27, 1946.    They lived in Newman Grove, Nebraska, on a farm with Gerald’s mother, LeeReeFee,  and stepdad, Frank Elder.  Gerald farmed and worked at a gas station.  During this time, three of their children were born, John, Dianna and Ronald.

They all then moved to Omaha and Gerald started his Conoco Gas Station business on 69th & Military. Their home was in Benson on Bedford Street.  During this time,  LeeReeFee and Frank became sick with cancer and they both passed away.

Lois and Gerald’s family continued to grow with two more daughters, Cynthia and Katherine.  Following Katherine’s birth, they moved to a new home in Keystone on North 76th Street.

Lois worked outside the home in retail sales.   She also did the books for Gerald’s business. They were involved with the Shriners and Lois with Eastern Star.  She also enjoyed bowling, gardening, and painting plaster craft.  They traveled throughout the US, to Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and to Europe.

In the early 1970’s, they built a home on Willow Point Lake, near Ashland. It was a gathering place for family and friends.  In 1972, they moved out to their lake home where their daughter, Katherine, went to high school.   After Katherine graduated, they moved back to Omaha to a home in the Keystone area on Sprague Street.  Many celebrations were held there.   They enjoyed their backyard and the menagerie of statuary.

In the 1990’s, Gerald and Lois moved to their last home on 156th Street. They loved their home.  It was a weekly gathering place for their children.   Gerald passed on June 5, 2013, and Lois remained in the home until the age of 95 when she moved to a care facility.

For Lois and Gerald, family was cherished, loved and to be celebrated.  They both held a strong work ethic and emphasized the importance of being responsible, but most important is the bond of family.

Lois passed away on June 10, 2024, after suffering a stroke.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; son, Ronald; mother, Jane; father, William; and four brothers and six sisters.  She is survived by her son, John (Caryn); daughter, Dianna Drickey;  daughter-in-law, Jan Redding; daughter, Cynthia (Steve) Redfern; daughter, Katherine Radachi and partner Michael Falcone; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.
