Lola was born on January 3, 1922 to Edward Ammon and Frances (Alexander) Strayer in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was the ninth of ten children. She was very active in the Salvation Army Church, participating in the orchestra and was a bell ringer. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1940, one of three siblings who attended high school. She and Edward Collier were married in 1941 and had nearly 69 years together. She was a remarkable farmer’s wife and a wonderful mother to their five children. Lola enjoyed embroidering and made many sets of dish towels for her children and grandchildren. She crocheted. She loved visiting her neighbors. She was famous for her homemade bread, making eight loaves three times a week for years and years. She also enjoyed spending winters in Texas with her husband, thirty winters in all. Husband Edward preceded her in death in 2009. She is survived by daughter Margie Ingram and husband Royce of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sons: Edward (Bucky) and wife Sandy, Roger and wife Sharon, Richard, Dennis and wife Virginia all of Missouri Valley; 27 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren, She is also survived by her sister Darlene Strayer, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, sisters-in-laws Loretta Strayer of Winama, Indiana, Lucille Lee of St. Joseph, Missouri, Alice Witthauer of Santa Ana, California, brothers-in-laws Paul Collier and wife Doris of Honey Creek, Iowa, Jim Ratekin of Paradise, California, Edmund Collier and wife Louise of Banning, California, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
