Lonnie D. Goynes, Jr.

Lonnie D. Goynes, Jr., 89 July 6, 1935 – August 21, 2024. Lonnie passed away August 21, 2024, in Omaha, NE. Born on July 6, 1935, to Louise Goynes (Handy) and Lonnie D. Goynes, Sr. in Masonville, AR. Lonnie was a man of many interests and talents, who lived a full and vibrant life.
Lonnie dedicated many years of his life to hard work through several career choices. He left
Arkansas to work at the South Omaha Meat Packing Plant. He was a Sales Manager for Payless Shoe Store, and he worked in manufacturing at the Vickers plant. He spent a short time selling Insurance, before working and retiring from his most fulfilling position as a Highway Maintenance Worker for the Nebraska Department of Transportation. His work ethic and leadership were well respected among all peers and colleagues at every position.
While working at the meat packing plant he met the love of his life, Lorine Pierce. They soon married and raised three wonderful children, one daughter and two sons. Lorine and Lonnie also took a very active role nurturing their grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Lonnie shared several hobbies with his wife. They loved to fish, cook, host family dinners and parties, work in the garden, watch westerns, and travel to baseball games. Lonnie’s most precious hobby was his gift of conversation. Being able to talk to anyone about anything at any time was his superpower. This superpower helped him quickly acclimate to an assisted living facility, after Lorine passed away in 2013. Lonnie had a captured audience, and he really enjoyed himself.
Lonnie was a Christian and served in several leadership roles in the church. He was an excellent Choir Director. He was a man of high character who lived a quiet life of dignity, service, and faith. He will be missed.

Dear cousin Gail and Tovey my heart brokes as our family chain breaks. But Jehovah God made us a promise at Rev 21:4 ” He will wipe every tear from your eyes, death will be no more, nor pain these things will have passed away.” And John 5: 28,29 ” The hour is coming when those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out”That’s the day I look for! Love you all!
