Lora Lee “Mike” Cope

March 10, 1935 – June 6, 2022

Lora Lee “Mike” Cope passed away June 6, 2022 at Elk Ridge Village. She was born March 10, 1935 to Paul and Marie Mikes in West Bend, IA. Lora studied Nursing at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA but got married before completing her studies. She met Robert Cope on a blind date while in college; they were married August 21, 1955.

The happy couple lived in Florida, Texas, South Carolina, Iowa, New York and Illinois. Each of their four children was born in a different state. The family finally settled in Omaha in 1969.

Lora worked at Younkers department store at the Westroads Mall. She was there 10 years working her way from salesperson to Merchandising Manager. She retired from Younkers in 1987. When her husband, Bob, started his own company, Weedcope, Lora did all the book work and office duties.

Lora loved babysitting grandkids, reading thrillers, the Huskers, watching sports, HGTV and her favorite TV shows, tending her house and garden, playing bridge, talking on the phone and traveling. She and Bob visited all 50 states and 8 foreign countries.

Lora was preceded in death by her parents; brother Roger Mikes and sister MaryJo Russell. Survived by her loving and devoted husband Robert; children: Paula Cope, Pam Cope, Polly (Jack) Struyk, Craig Cope; grandchildren: Megan (Derek) Lukken, Ben (Jenny) Struyk, Shelby (Luke) Tieso, Jackson (Emma) Struyk, Tucker Struyk and 5 great-grandchildren.

VISITATION Wednesday, July 13, 2022 10am to 11am at the West Center Chapel, followed by MEMORIAL SERVICE at 11am, LUNCHEON to follow. INTERMENT Omaha National Cemetery – immediate family only.

    So sorry to learn of Lora’s passing. We so enjoyed family Memorial Day visits with Joe and Jean and also at the casino in Emmetsburg in recent years.

    Thoughts and prayers to the family. Even though it’s been many years since I have seen you all, my memories are happy and joyful from all the Memorial Day visits! Lora’s smile and laugh will always be remembered.
