Larry Butters, born on May 26, 1927, made the journey on October 25, 2017.  Preceded in death by wife, Mary; parents, Leonard and Lucille; son, Bill; niece, Janet; nephews, Mike and Jim.  Survived by son, Dan.

Larry was raised in Iowa, left home at age 17, joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.), then joined the Navy at war’s end and was stationed in China.  After completing military service, he met Mary Shade; they were married and began a wonderful 68 years of marriage together.

Larry learned to fly and became an avid pilot.  He and Mary flew all over the United States; Mary is now his navigator.

Larry’s hobbies included archery and Rifle Club, where he was an expert marksman.  Larry and Mary loved to travel, touring the country by motorhome and seeing the world during their marriage.  After retirement, Larry became an avid golfer, playing up until two years ago.

Larry and Mary were original parishioners of Mary Our Queen Catholic Church.  Larry was a generous donor to the Open Door Mission and other institutions for the homeless.  Larry will be missed by son, Dan and family.

Larry, I’ll miss our occasional heartfelt phone calls; you were a good uncle even though we were half brothers. Dan, hope you can manage with just Peanut to look after you. love, Leonard
