LOVEJOY, Samuel S.

Samuel S. Lovejoy Jun 12, 1930 – Jan 30, 2015 Born to Lelia Mae (Deal) Finch and Harry Finch on June 12, 1930 in Boone, Iowa. After a divorce, Lelia Mae married Edwin “Lewis” Lovejoy, forming a large family that included Kenneth Finch, Harriet Finch, Betty Finch, Bob Finch, Sam Finch, Oscar Lovejoy, and James Lovejoy. Later, Sam and Bob were adopted by Lewis. While in junior high, Sam took up tap dancing and ballroom dancing. He later met his wife, Colleen, at a YMCA dance. On July 30, 1950, the hottest day of the year and NO air conditioning, Sam and Colleen were married at Dundee Presbyterian Church. Sam and Colleen were the parents of three daughters: Sheri Lovette (Michael), Holly Kaye, and Lori Saxe (Steven). Later, six grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren followed. In 1952 Sam went to work for his father-in-law in the dry cleaning business. After his father-in-law died suddenly, Sam managed the business. Sam and Colleen bought Mills Cleaners, and with hard work built the business into the top dry cleaner in the Omaha area. After selling the dry cleaning business, Sam was able to play golf, shooting a remarkable 70 when he was 70 years old. Music always played an important role in Sam’s life. He played trumpet and danced in school. He was choir director and often sang with the Shrine Chanters for many years. In 1987 Sam was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Heart problems and other physical issues plagued him, but through it all he had a positive attitude. Sam was a dedicated husband, father, friend and follower of Jesus Christ. Sam is survived by his wife of 64 years, Colleen Lovejoy; children: Sheri Lovette (Michael), Holly Kaye, and Lori Saxe (Steven); 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
