Lt. Col. Robert Ray “Bob” Chedester
October 20, 1932 – October 11, 2022

Bob was born in Omaha, NE, but lived all over the world. He graduated from Central High School in 1950, and in 2006 was inducted into it’s Hall of Fame. In 1971 he graduated from the University of Omaha with a bachelors degree in general studies. After 20 years he retired from the U. S. Army, Core of Engineers. He became a helicopter and fixed-wing pilot serving 2/1 year tours in the Viet-Nam War. He helped engineers in 8 different countries in Central and South America map their countries. Later, he served with Air-Serve Int’l as a pilot and director to distribute food to the people of Africa. He did this for 4 years and then another 2 years in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Dorothy Chedester. He is survived by his brother, John (Molly) Chedester; his wife of 68 years, JoAnn Chedester; 3 children: Steve (Pamela) Chedester, Peter Chedester, Sharon (Kirk) Johnson; 5 grandchildren: Scot (Laura) Chedester, Alisha (Cody) Baines, and Candace (Kevin) Coe, Nathan (Amanda) Johnson and Kristen Johnson; 9 great-grandchildren: Morgan, Ryan, Braxton, Connor, Gabe, Asher, Robbie, Jaxson and Tobias.

Memorial Service:  Monday, October 17, 2022, 2:00 p.m.
Military Service at The Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd., Omaha, NE
Following the ceremony there will be a time of fellowship and sharing at Kingsway Christian Church, 1106 S. 139th St. Omaha, NE 68144

    JoAnn and family, It has been a delight to get to know you and Bob over the past few years. The deep devotion to Jesus and His mission that radiated from you has been a blessing to us. Our prayers are with you as you grieve the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. But we join you in praise to Jesus Christ who fills you with confident hope of Bob’s salvation and life in the presence of or God and Savior.

We are thankful to have visited Bob and JoAnn on Monday, September 19, 2022 when Bob was happy and conversational and showed his bravery and courage of his life as a veteran pilot in Viet Nam. We celebrate the faith and victory of a life dedicated to Jesus Christ. Bob saved many lives during his career as an pilot, and he is now with his Savior in Heaven. We are forever grateful for the friendship and influence and wonderful memories.
