Lueretha Haynes
March 22, 1932 – October 14, 2023
Lueretha Haynes, affectionately called Honey, entered the world on March 22, 1932, in Shuqualak, MS, to parents Claudie and Geneva Cotton. She tied the knot with John W. Haynes on October 25, 1949, and together, they welcomed six children—Helen, Jewel, Roy, Johnny, Marvin, and Verna—into their lives, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In 1953, Lueretha, John W., and their young family relocated to Omaha. Lueretha devoted many years to her roles as a domestic housekeeper and later as a dedicated employee at Lutheran Hospital’s laundry department for a quarter of a century until her well-deserved retirement. A devout member of St. Mark Baptist Church in Omaha, Nebraska, Lueretha cherished spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends. Known for her resilience, straightforwardness, and honesty. Honey left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. She will be remembered for her home cooked meals that always brought the family together. She was the life of “Our” party, enjoyed a good celebration, and loved to dance. She touched the heart of all who knew her and will be immensely missed by her family.
On Saturday morning, October 14, 2023, Lueretha bid farewell to this life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claudie and Geneva Cotton; her beloved husband, John W. Haynes; her sons: Roy, Johnny, and Marvin; grandsons, Marcell and Jarrell; siblings: Edna Pearl, I.V., Mamie, Jack, Elsie Mae, Curtis, and Claudie.
Lueretha is survived by her three daughters: Helen (John), Jewel, Verna, Jessica (Thad), and Johnetta; two sons, Jesse and Johnny. Her legacy also includes fourteen grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren brother, Randolph; sisters: Troy (Tom), Hazel, Dorothy Jean (Roy); and a multitude of family and friends who will deeply miss her vibrant presence.
Funeral Service: Saturday, October 21, 2023, 10:00 a.m., West Center Chapel. Interment: Mt. Hope Cemetery.
