M. Jane Totten

April 25, 1944- February 12, 2025

M. Jane Totten (Ratcliffe), of Omaha, NE, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, at the age of 79.

Raised in the Dundee area by her parents, Eugene and Dorothy Ratcliffe, Jane spent most of her life in Omaha. She graduated from Benson High School and later earned her degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, becoming a social worker. After marrying her husband, Fred Totten, the couple lived in Europe for several years before returning to settle in the Millard area.

Jane took immense pride in being a mother, wholeheartedly embracing the role and never looking back. She was deeply involved in her children’s lives, always present on the sidelines and in audiences, cheering them on. A woman of many talents, Jane excelled in both art and music, playing multiple instruments and actively participating in church choir and the Intergenerational Orchestra.

Her dedication to community service was boundless—working with therapy dogs, creating care packages for the homeless, crafting mats and blankets, fundraising for the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, and advocating for adoption. Later in life, Jane found immense joy in supporting her grandchildren, once again becoming a familiar presence at their events.

A lifelong Elvis fan, Jane fell in love with his music the first time she heard him sing. Whether gospel or rock and roll, his music brought her endless happiness. Her husband, Fred, made sure she never missed an Elvis impersonator when one came to town. Even as Alzheimer’s took away many of her memories, the sound of Elvis still made her smile.

A cherished daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Patricia Trujillo; and her beloved husband, Fred Totten. She is survived by her son, James, and his children, Logan and Emerson Totten; her daughter, Julie, and her children, Collin and Veda Galligher.
