MaLisa Hope Updike

April 26, 1969 – August 17, 2018

MaLisa H. Updike passed away at 6pm on August 17, 2018.  She was born April 26, 1969 in Centralia, Illinois, and she resided and worked in the senior care and social work fields in Marion County, Illinois until she and her husband, Bradford Updike, moved to Vermillion, South Dakota in July 1997 for her husband’s law school education. During her three years in South Dakota, she had a son, Adam D. Updike, born April 24, 1998, and she worked for the Education Department at the University of South Dakota.  MaLisa and her husband and son, moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 2000, where she was employed as a social service worker and as an insurance claims adjuster through the birth of her daughter, Grace H. Updike, on March 17, 2004.  From 2004 through the end of her life, she was a devoted mother to her children, wife to her husband, and a friend to many.   She was also an avid collector and dealer of antiques and other collectibles, and she successfully operated a business, The Purple Peacock, from her home and from the Omaha Mega Market for several years.

Survived by husband, Bradford Allen Updike; children, Adam Dean Updike (Katherine Rust) and Grace Hope Updike; parents, Ronald L. and Nelda F. Zinser; sisters, Tina Marie Henson (Travis R.) and Ronda Z. Bradley (Joseph Bradley, Jr.); nieces: Paige Becking (Daniel), Sydney Bradley, and Hannah Thompson; grandniece, Blair Becking; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Theresa and Joe Thompson; mother-in-law, Betty Updike.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 25th from 4:30pm to 6pm at the West Center Chapel, followed by TIME OF SHARING at 6pm.  ADDITIONAL SERVICE: Sunday, Sept. 2nd from 4:30pm to 6pm at Kinmundy Christian Church in Kinmundy, Illinois, with dinner at the church after the service.  She will be laid to rest at Sandy Branch Cemetery in rural Kinmundy, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Oil Belt Christian Service Camp.

    Missy was so full of love for everyone, especially the kids. She was their biggest chearleader! She always made sure they knew she was there cheering for them! We will miss her very much. Love and hugs to all of her family. Heaven gained a very special angel. ❤️
