Marcel “Butch” Backman

Marcel “Butch” Backman, age 85 of Wynot, NE died on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Arbor Care Center in Hartington, NE.  Butch was born on April 19, 1939, to Florian and Margaret Backman. He attended elementary school through the 8^th grade in St. James, NE and graduated from Wynot High School in Wynot, NE. He married Jeri (Geralda) Becker on June 20, 1961, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Helena, NE. After his long career in farming with his dad until the 80s, he began his career in the crop adjusting industry. This led to Butch starting his own crop insurance agency for over 30 years. This career enabled Butch to stay in the farming industry and do what he loved best, talk to people. He retired at the age of 80.

Butch was active in the Sacred Heart Parish. He had a deep faith in God and held a Holy Hour of Adoration for many years. He loved visiting his children and their families. He enjoyed spending his time watching collegiate and high school basketball, gardening, landscaping, and ensuring his yard was the richest shade of green. Butch never knew a stranger. He loved to talk and tell stories. Gambling and going out for coffee were his favorite pastimes.

Butch is survived by his wife, Jeri (Geralda) Backman of Wynot, NE; sons, Jude (Carmen) Backman of Appleton, WI with children: Brandan (Whitney), Brittnee, Brett and Bryant Backman; Jace Backman of Lincoln, NE with children: Austin Thomson (Andrea, fiancé), Makenzie and Trent Backman (Cailey); daughters, Jana (Walt) Dworak of Omaha, NE with children: Dax (Lauren, fiancé), Courtney and Danielle Dworak; Joell (Johnny) Aguirre of Godfrey, IL with children, Trey and Taylor Aguirre. Butch is also survived by four great grandchildren:  Mya, Tate and Trey Backman, Easton Backman; sister, Georgie Thunker.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Florian and Margaret Backman; sister, Glendora Wieseler; and and infant daughter.

WAKE SERVICE: Tuesday, May 28, 2024, 7:00PM, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 807 Emerson Ave., Wynot, Nebraska. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Wednesday, May 29, 2024, 10:30 a.m., Sacred Heart Catholic Church. INTERMENT: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wynot, Nebraska.
