Marcel G. Matya

MATYA, Marcel G., June 22, 1933 – January 3, 2012. The last child of John and Josephine Matya was suddenly called to heaven on January 3rd, 2012. Raised in Tarnov, Nebraska, Marcel served in the Army from 1952-53. Upon return, he ran the family farm until he married the light of his life, Euphemia Boryca in 1965 and moved to South Omaha. Marcel and Faye raised their family in Immaculate Conception Parish where he was an example of faith-filled Catholic living. After moving to Bellevue in 1989, Marcel and Faye became members of St. Mary’s parish. He had great devotion to the Blessed Virgin and faithfully participated in perpetual Eucharistic Adoration for 10+ years. A very hard worker, Marcel became a Machinist by trade in 1965, working in machinery maintenance at the Safeway Warehouse, the former AT&T plant and Campbell Soup Company. To ensure he provided well for his family he also worked extra jobs siding homes. He retired in 1997 which then allowed more time for his hobbies of golf, Nebraska football, card-playing and doting on his grandchildren. He will be well-remembered for his unselfish ways and immense humility. And although he will be greatly missed, his love of jokes, pranks and story-telling will be comforting memories to family and friends. Marcel is survived by his wife of 46 years Euphemia “Faye” (Boryca) and daughters Sharon Matya, Sandra (son-in-law Kent) Scheuler and son Robert “Bert” Matya along with grandchildren Samantha, Olivia, Carolyn and Jake Scheuler. He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers Frances (Brennan), Edmund “Jake”, Andrew, Martina (Smollen), Mildred (Wilczewski), Ambrose and parents Josephine and John Matya. The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, 5pm-7pm at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm at the church. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Friday, Jan 6th, 10:30am, St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery with military rites by Benson VFW Post 2503. Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
