Margaret A. Patten

Born: December 17, 1926 ^
Parents: Frank and Mary (Jurgensmier) Miller in Panama, Iowa
Married Alfred S. Patten on February 5,1945
Margaret A. Patten preceded in death by her spouse of 52 years Alfred; son, Thomas; her parents Mary and
Frank Miller; brothers Edward Miller and Francis Miller and their spouses; and sisters,
Helen Monahan, Marie Monahan, and Dorothy Monahan and their spouses. Margaret is
survived by her sister Theresa Kenkel (Merle).
Margaret is survived by eight of her nine children: Robert (Sally), Linda Eggers (Don),
Ronald (Carol), Nancy Dixson, Gary, Mark (Susan), Alfred (Dee) and Frank (Kelly).
Margaret also leaves 25 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren
grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Margaret and her husband, Alfred, farmed briefly near Panama, Iowa, before moving to
Portsmouth, Iowa, where Alfred opened a garage. In 1953, they moved to Omaha,
Nebraska, where Alfred worked as a machinist and Margaret made a home for him and
their nine children.
They were members of St. Joseph’s Church in Omaha from 1953 on.
In 1961, Margaret went to work at a small restaurant in South Omaha. In 1965 she began
work at Nagl Manufacturing, where she worked for the next 24 years.
After she retired in 1989, Margaret volunteered with the Lynch Park Neighborhood
Association.
Margaret welcomed her children’s spouses into her heart, always remembering the dates
of their wedding anniversaries and delighting in the birth of each grandchild. We could
always depend on her to remember the birthdate of every grandchild.
The grandchildren loved visiting Grandma’s house and often resisted leaving, begging for
just a little more time there.
Her fried chicken and her lemon meringue pies were legendary, and everyone loved to
help her bake and lick the beaters and bowls.
Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma – you will be greatly missed!
