Poem to M.
(From R.)
“I think I need a religion,” you said to me,
The electronics carrying your voice and plea.
You came to understand that it was more than that,
Not a system, but a reality calling after you.
Those first conversations
Spun off into labyrinths
Of ancillary provisions
And connecting points
That challenged my ability to track.
As you told me many a time
You were “strange.”
Solitary.
Peripheral.
Somehow I was able to traverse those mazes
Of thoughts, concerns, musings,
And passions both light and dark
To see your love for the One who made you
And called you to Himself.
“Without a plea” you understood
The wellsprings of His Grace
And with ardent Hope you yearned to see His face.
And however you hid from so many
You made room for me,
A strange one, myself,
And counted me as Friend.
“In the end,” you said,
“We’ll see how brief it was, be it gladness or sadness.”
“And then we’ll be Home.”
Now, you are Home.
And in the silences here
Your absence is ever present.
Message to R. Terrell from Bob Myers:
Richard,
I am sorry to hear that Maggie passed, but I know that she was very ready and is now no longer suffering. I’m sorry, too, that you were the one to find her. Difficult experience.
Thank you for introducing her to me and encouraging me to visit her in the hospital. I came away both times very blessed. Lovely woman who loved Jesus with all her heart. God be with you as you plan and lead her service.
Gratefully,
Bob
