Margaret Imogene Bland

BLAND-Margaret Imogene. Born on September 14, 1924, in Shelby, NE; passed away on January 31, 2007, in Omaha. Preceded in death by parents, Webster Glenn Bland and Margaret “Alta” (Funkhouser); and brother, Robert W. Bland. Margaret attended Shelby High School and then went on to York College in York, NE to earn her A.B. Degree in 1946. She also attended the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, and Utah State University, Logan, UT. Margaret began her lifelong teaching career in 1946 at Shelby Public Schools. She also taught in the Lexington Public Schools and Trenton Public Schools before joining Omaha Public Schools in 1954. Margaret was a Mathematics Teacher until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of the National Council of Mathematics Teachers. Margaret had been active across the years as a volunteer at Clarkson Hospital, University Hospital, and the Lutheran Thrift Store, and was a past member of United Brethren Church in Shelby, NE. She was a very active and supportive member of Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church and their Global Mission Committee in recent years. Margaret was a devoted daughter, sister and a true friend, caring not for the accumulation of this world’s material goods as long as she could dispense service, goodwill and cheerfulness to those needing aid and encouragement. She will be greatly missed by her many friends. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 9 at 11:00 AM at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, 2650 Farnam Street, Omaha, 68131.
