Margaret R. Platner, age 96 of Papillion, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Margaret was born April 3, 1919 in Red Oak, Iowa to Tom W. and Regina (Borsdorf) Smith. Margaret graduated from Onawa High School. She was married to William C. Platner on September 26, 1945 in Onawa, Iowa. Margaret lived her life with grace and loving kindness. She had an incredible green thumb and made everywhere she lived more beautiful. She was a member of her paint club for more than thirty-five years and loved to create – giving her paintings in oil to her children and grandchildren. Family and friends alike will dearly miss her loving words and gentle ways. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill (William C. Platner); her father and mother, Tom and Regina Smith; sisters, Marian Smith and Kathleen Zortman (Keith). Survived by children, Linda Kelley (Jeff Hardin), Tom Platner (Julia Watson), Mary Johnsen (Jerry) and Mark Platner (Deborah Henck); grandchildren, Regina Ball (Steve), Laura Hess (Jonathan), Renee Richardson (Jake), Nick Johnsen (Heather), Phil Johnsen (Jessica Hubbard); great grandchildren, Jairin Potter (Chelsea), Jarek and Joel Richardson, Jaice Johnsen, Nellie Beck, Sofie Ball and Nash Johnsen. A wake service will be held 6:00 p.m. Monday with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. at Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan, Iowa.
