Margaret Sherman-Piercy
September 8, 1933 – February 7, 2024
Margaret Sherman-Piercy was born on September 8, 1933, to Maxwell Albert and Anna Lorraine Schneiderwind.
THE STORY OF OUR MOTHER:
After graduating from Benson High School in 1951, mom married Richard Sherman on June 5, 1953, at Bethany Lutheran Church.
When dad was drafted into the Army in 1958, they moved to Huntsville, AL. They purchased their first and only home on 58th Street when they returned to Omaha in 1960.
Mom cherished being a wife, homemaker and mother to the couple’s four children. Mom was instrumental with the Women’s Guild at Bethany Lutheran Church and she and dad were involved with the youth groups. Mom also helped outside the church in scouting and dancing activities that her children were involved in.
When all her children were finally in school, Mom took on a variety of different jobs until her retirement in 2000 from the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Neurology department.
During their retirement, mom and dad spent time enjoying their home, their grandchildren, and traveling with friends.
Mom and dad were married for 56 years when dad was called to Heaven on November 29, 2009. Mom’s strength and faith carried her forward with her focus on family, friends and most importantly her church.
In the spring of 2012, Robert Piercy, another widowed church member and a longtime friend, offered to begin picking mom up for Lenten services and six weeks later, the two announced to their families on Easter they were going to be married. The kids knew this marriage gave both widowers the companionship they both longed for.
On June 23, 2012, mom and Robert Piercy were married at Bethany Lutheran Church. Robert was called to Heaven a short 22 months later.
Mom was able to remain in the home she and dad bought until she was almost 90 years old. In September 2023, mom moved into Hillcrest Assisted Living in Gretna, Nebraska.
Mom shared the love of Jesus with everyone she came into contact with and in her later years she often shared she was ready to go to Heaven. God in His own timing called mom home to Heaven on February 7, 2024.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard and Robert. She is survived by her four children: Lisa Billman, Laura Kapustka (Stan), Lynn Reichle and Scott Sherman (Shelly); her eight grandchildren: Albert, Sarah, Nathan, Connor Taylor, Lindsey, Max and Tyler; seven great-grandchildren; and all her extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at River of Life Church, Saturday, June 8th, 11:08 a.m., 5151 NW Radial Highway, Omaha, NE 68104

Although it’s been many years since I’ve seen Margaret, I’m saddened by the temporary loss of her presence on this Earth. But I rejoice that I know she is in the perfect place we’re all believers long to be. Our blessed hope for we do not grieve as those who have no hope. She was an amazing woman with a wonderful standard for her family and community. I was honored to have known her.
So sorry for the family’s loss.
Thinking of the family at this difficult time! Your mom always lived life to the fullest and was a strong, independent woman. The last time I saw her was in June 2023. She came to visit my dad at the Newport House when he was in hospice – she insisted on walking down the halls on her own to his room for a visit. It was a brief visit, but we so appreciated having her stop by! Much love to all!!
She was always a pleasure to talk to. Full of life. Glad she lived a good life.
