Margarita Long

Margarita was born on May 29, 1956 in Mexico City to Jose and Virginia Gaytan. She is preceded in death by her mother and her brother, Adolfo Gaytan. Being the only daughter with six brothers, she grew up being a strong, determined, and tenacious person and would carry these virtues throughout her life. She married her first husband, Octavio Vargas, on March 28 of 1981 and together they had three children: Ariadna, Octavio, and Emmanuel in Mexico City. In 1996 they immigrated to Omaha, NE. She was a consummate fighter, always striving to raise her children and provide them with a good life; sometimes working as many as three jobs to make sure that everyone was provided for. She was a devoted worker who always fought to be the best in whatever she did. She married her second husband, John Long, on December 4, 2009 and they were together until her passing on December 5, 2020.

Margarita was a passionate, caring person who radiated warmth and welcoming to everyone she met. At her job in St. Joseph’s Tower, she was a favorite of many of the residents and strove to provide them with meaningful experiences and often championed the causes of the residents. Margarita loved to help people, she loved to garden and take care of her plants. She loved to cook and would often show her love for someone with her cooking. Margarita was known for her labors of love with friends and acquaintances.

Above all, Margarita loved her family: her siblings and her father whom she would visit in Mexico and talk with to fill them in on her family’s lives, her husband whom she built a life with spending their days doing projects around the house, gardening, and seeing family and friends, but most of all her three kids and her two grandkids. She was always their biggest cheerleader, pushing them to work hard and celebrate all of life’s biggest and best moments. She was the best “Abue”, always generous, warm, caring, and she considered her grandkids a blessing. She will be deeply mourned, sorely missed, and lovingly remembered.

Margarita nació en el 29 de mayo, 1956 en la Ciudad de México a José y Virginia Gaytán. Precedida en muerte por su madre y hermano Adolfo Gaytán. Siendo la única hija con 6 hermanos, ella creció siendo una persona fuerte, determinada, y tenaz. Estas virtudes le ayudarían mucho durante su vida. Se casó con su primer esposo, Octavio Vargas el 28 de marzo de 1981 y tuvieron tres hijos: Ariadna, Octavio y Emmanuel. En 1996 inmigraron a los Estados Unidos y llegaron a Omaha, NE. Siempre la guerrera indomable, tratando de darle a sus hijos una mejor vida; a veces trabajando tres trabajos para asegurar que nada les faltara. Era una muy buena trabajadora, siempre poniendo el ejemplo de dar todo de sí misma para hacer el mejor trabajo posible. En el 4 de diciembre, 2009 se casó con su segundo marido, John Long, y estuvieron juntos hasta su muerte en el 5 de diciembre 2020.

Margarita era una mujer cariñosa que siempre radiaba calidez y amabilidad a quien la conociera. En su trabajo de St. Joseph’s Tower, era la persona favorita de muchos residentes. Siempre se esforzaba para proveerles experiencias y recuerdos y siempre abogando por ellos. A Margarita le encantaba ayudar a la gente, le encantaba pasar tiempo en su jardín y cuidar de sus plantas. Le gustaba cocinar y frecuentemente expresaba su amor y cariño a través de su comida. Su familia, amigos y conocidos siempre podrían contar con Margarita.

Más que nada, Margarita amaba a su familia. A sus hermanos y su padre a quien visitaba en México y con quien hablaba seguido contándoles sobre las vidas de su familia. Amaba a su esposo, con quien construyo una vida llena de proyectos en su casa y en su jardín visitando a amigos y familiares. Pero más que nada, los amores de su vida eran sus tres hijos y dos nietos. Siempre echándoles porras, apoyándolos para seguir adelante y no darse por vencidos y celebrando sus acontecimiento chicos y grandes. Era la mejor “Abue”, siempre generosa con su tiempo, cariño y amor, considerando a sus nietos una bendición de Dios. Lamentamos profundamente su partida, la extrañaremos infinitamente y siempre tendremos su recuerdo en nuestros corazones.
