María Cristina Cacho

María Cristina Cacho

February 19, 1947 – January 27, 2025

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we gather to honor and celebrate the incredible life of María Cristina Cacho—a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend. She peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home and into her Savior’s arms on January 27, 2025 at the age of 77. Surrounded by her loving family, she left behind a legacy of faith, family, unwavering love, steadfast commitment, and kindness, a legacy that will be treasured forever.

María was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. She was the proud daughter of Carmelo González and Manuela Gorritz, and the eldest of three daughters. She graduated from Agustín Stahl High School in 1965. After high school, María went to data processing school where she received an Associate’s Degree in accounting. She went on to work in the tire industry for several years as an accounting associate. María chose to be a stay-at-home mom during her daughters’ elementary and junior high years, during which she was hands-on and very involved in her daughters’ education and extracurricular activities. She went back to the workforce when her daughters started high school. María went on to work as an assistant in management for La Petite Academy for 20+ years. The La Petite Academy on 140th and West Center Road in Omaha, NE, was dedicated to María in recognition for her years of service to the families of La Petite Academy.

María married the love of her life, José Cacho, on August 5, 1966. They met in kindergarten at the age of five, grew up two blocks from each other, went to the same schools, and got married when María was 18 and José was 19. They were married for 58 and a half years.

María’s life was filled with love, joy, and a deep connection to the people she cared about. She carried with her a warmth and a kindness that made everyone feel loved. She was the kind of person who never met a stranger, always ready to share a meal, lend a hand, or share a laugh. She loved the Lord and her family deeply.

María’s warmth and kindness left a mark on every person she met. Her light will forever shine in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

María was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Leoncio González and Providencia Pérez; her maternal grandparents, Martina Pérez y Juan Gorritz; and her parents, Carmelo González and Manuela Gorritz.

María is survived in life by her husband, José Cacho; daughters, Zoé (Martin) and Zory (John); three grandchildren, Isabela, Sebastián, and Samuel; and sisters, Iris and Carmen González.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8-8).

María believed in her heart and publicly proclaimed Jesus to be her Lord and Savior. Though our hearts are grieving, we also rejoice in knowing that our sweet wife/mom/grandma is now whole and in her Savior’s arms. And although she is no longer physically with us, her spirit lives on—in the hearts of the family she adored, the lives she touched, and the love she shared so freely.

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all’” (Proverbs 31:28-29).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
