Marianne Frances Vlcek Bonnemier
January 27, 1939-June 5, 2025
Marianne Frances Vlcek Bonnemier, 86, passed away peacefully at home on June 5th, 2025. She was born on January 27, 1939, in Omaha, NE to Lillian and Rudy Vlcek.
Marianne grew up in St. Adalbert’s neighborhood. She attended Cathedral High School. While in high school, she worked as an usherette at Rosenblatt Stadium and was the president of the Omaha Cardinals’ Fan Club. She attended the College of St. Mary’s and graduated with a degree in education.
While in college, she met the love of her life, Joseph Bonnemier, and they were the first couple to be married in the newly built St. Adalbert’s church on December 26th, 1960. St. Adalbert’s was a church that her grandparents helped found in 1917. Her parents continued to be an integral part of this parish. Her mother was the organist for 60 years. Her father was the choir director. Marianne had an ear for music as well. She played the piano and ensured all her children were educated in music. The church became the foundation for Joe and Marianne’s new family. They were both very active in parish activities. Her dedication to Catholic schools and a life of service continued throughout her life.
She worked at Our Lady of Lourdes for 27 years as a middle-school science teacher, potentially inspiring over a thousand students (including her own family) to love science and nature. She also coached high school tennis and led others to deepen their faith by teaching CCD classes.
She is survived by her four children: Terri (Greg) Anania, Gerri Namuth, Greg (Marci) Bonnemier and Caryn (Matt) Silcock; twelve grandchildren: Mara (Prateek) Samudrala , Joey (Victoria) Anania, Ashley (Jack) Ginger, Brianna Namuth, Benjamin (Erica) Namuth, August Namuth, Shelby (Sam) Gustin, Elizabeth Namuth, Charli Silcock, Regina Namuth, Claire Silcock, and Andrew Namuth; three great-grandchildren: Lance Anania, Henry Ginger, and Levi Gustin; brother, Jim (Marilynn) Vlcek; sisters-in-law, Joan Vlach and Georgia (Phil) Grubb; many nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Lillian Vlcek; husband, Joseph Bonnemier; brother, Rudy Vlcek II; sisters-in-law, Helen and Cecelia Vlcek; brother-in-law, Dr. Chuck Vlach; grandson, Gabriel Namuth.
Marianne loved any excuse to be outdoors. She was an avid tennis player and managed the Frank Fochek Memorial Tennis League for many years. She loved biking, camping, fishing, hiking and exploring nature with her family. Gardening was a passion that she shared with her children and grandchildren-creating a new generation of gardeners. She was a die-hard Kansas City Royals fan and even attended the 2014 and 2015 World Series! And most of all, she just loved sitting on her front porch visiting with friends and family and telling a story or five!
Her generosity and service to the poor was inspirational to so many people. The Stephen Center was very dear to her heart. She started the Walk for the Homeless as a Confirmation project while she was a teacher at Lourdes and this continues today in a different format-“A Day Without Shoes”. And after her husband passed away, she and her family created and have kept the tradition of serving Christmas Eve dinner at the Stephen Center-for 32 years! She was an amazing inspiration to all of us in so many ways!
