Martha E. Hansen
September 24, 1940-April 10, 2025
Martha E. (Gates) Hansen passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, with her husband by her side. Martha was born September 24, 1940, in Houston, Texas, to Elmer and Lenore (Laird) Gates. She graduated from Spring Branch High School in Houston and attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. While in her first year there she met the love of her life and her soon to be husband, Rod, where he was stationed in the Airforce.
Martha is survived by her husband Rod and her three children; her sons; Grady (Beth) Hansen, Shane (Melissa) Hansen, and her daughter, Michelle (Mark) Aschenbrenner, all of Omaha. She has 8 grandchildren: Tyler (Jalyn) Hansen, Todd (Tiffany) Hansen, Trevor (Brittany)Hansen, Brad (Valeria Avram) Hansen, Kailey (Ethan) Kocourek, Emma (Matt) Pridmore, Stephanie (Brandon White) Hansen, Ethan (Lauren) Aschenbrenner. She also has 13 great-grandchildren.
Martha was a loving mother and devoted wife while staying home to raise her children. She prided herself in keeping an immaculately clean home and volunteering at church. As her children grew up, she started her career in the Accounting Department at Peter Kiewit and Sons where she retired after 27 years of service.
Martha didn’t know a stranger. She had the gift of genuinely being interested in everyone she met. She had a sharp memory and never forgot a name. Martha’s faith in God was contagious and everyone around her could see his love working through her. For the past 3 years she lived at Papillion Brookstone (Manor) and her love and concern for others was felt there daily. Martha will be dearly missed by all.
Martha’s hobbies included attending Nebraska Football games with her husband Rod, attending her children and grandchildren’s school and sporting events, writing letters to family, and listening to Gospel Music.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Lenore Gates; her in-laws, Nick and Gladys Hansen; her brothers-in-law, Dr. James Price, and Marty Hansen.

We’ve lost a very special person in our lives, a very sad time for all of us. For the family, it’s unimaginable, unbelievable. Prayers for your healing. For me, I’ve lost a wonderful friend of 70+ years, the memories will always put a smile on my face as I miss her each day.
I met Martha at central Presbyterian many years ago. She lovingly encouraged me as a new mother and adored my 3 children. She had a gentle and peaceful demeanor; and it was such a blessing to see Jesus through her. Loved her very much and I’m praying for her friends and family. So thankful to have known her.
May the memory of your mother bring you comfort and peace our thoughts and prayers are with you
Mrs. Hansen (she has always been Mrs. Hansen to me) was a good friend to my parents, and I have fond memories of her from my childhood. Grady and I were good friends, and her presence at our games, taking us to and from golf courses, and the times that our families spent together at each others’ homes and in Dillon, Colorado, are lifetime memories. She was the kindest person, and it’s true that she was genuinely interested in the life of whomever she was speaking to. My sympathies to Mr. Hansen, Grady, Shane, Michelle, and the entire family.and the many people whose lives she touched with her kindness, love, and friendship.
