Marvin D. Andersen

February 18, 1937 – February 10, 2023

Marvin Andersen was born Feb. 18, 1937, to Morris and Elsie Andersen. He was born in Omaha and grew up on a farm in Mercer, Nebraska.

He graduated in 1954 from Valley High School, where he met his wife, Kay, at a Halloween dance during their freshman year. They were married for 58 years.

He proudly served his country in the Army Reserves.

He worked at Union Pacific for 10 years before earning an economics degree from the University of Omaha.

He began working at Mutual of Omaha in 1967, where he worked as an investment officer until his retirement in 1999.

After retiring, he became a docent at the Durham Museum in the education department until he retired from volunteering last year.

His pride and joy were his two children, Erik and Kathe.

He was also very active at his church, Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, which he joined in 1964.

He was preceded in death by, Morris and Elsie Andersen; brother, Gilbert; brother, Harvey; sister, Wilma.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; son, Erik; daughter, Kathe; brother-in-law, Larry (Sandy) Frye; nieces and nephews; cousins, Alice Fitzgerald, Leo (Karen) Pedersen; many other family and friends.

VISITATION: Wednesday, February 15th from 9:30am to 10:30am at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, followed by FUNERAL SERVICE at 10:30am.  Family Interment: Evergreen Memorial Park.  Memorials are suggested to Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church and The Durham Museum.

    Kay and family– I am so sorry for your loss. Marv was such a kind man– and he was a joy to work with at the museum. My thoughts and prayers are with you– prayers for comfort, peace, and strength.
